About St John's School
The School’s educational philosophy is rooted in an understanding that each pupil has different talents and distinct qualities; the aim is to nurture these talents, instill a love of learning and educate in the broadest possible sense. Exceptional pastoral care provides pupils with the support and guidance to achieve more than they might have imagined possible and to be able to try new things in a secure, safe and encouraging environment.
Founded in 1851 to provide education for the sons of the poor clergy, St John's has always been progressive, adapting over time to now provide an excellent education for boys and girls aged 11-18 and offering day, weekly or flexi boarding options to help families achieve the best possible balance between school, work and family life. Although St John's has changed with the times and the needs of the families it educates, the core values of courtesy, respect and tolerance hold true.
The main entry points are at 11+ (Lower Third), 13+ (Fourth Form) and 16+ (Lower Sixth). Occasionally, places might be available for entry into other year groups.
If you are considering St John’s, it is likely that the first step you will take will be to visit the School and find out more about what an education at St John’s will mean for your son or daughter. When you have decided that you wish to proceed with an application, you will register your child (deadlines apply and can be found on the School's website at www.stjohnsleatherhead.co.uk/admissions) and the admissions process begins.
St John's aims to make the process as smooth and straightforward as possible so that prospective candidates have the best possible chance to demonstrate their true ability and personality and so that a well-informed decision can be made about the pupils who will most enjoy life at St John’s.
At all entry points, assessment involves a combination of entrance examination and interview.
