Scholarships & Bursaries
The Governors of Moulsford Preparatory School are committed to broadening access to the school by offering to eligible parents/guardians means-tested financial support with the payment of fees. This opportunity is not unreasonably restricted. Such support is known as a Bursary and these may be awarded in the form of a discount of up to 100% on tuition and other fees payable, depending on the financial, compassionate or other pertinent circumstances of applicants.
Bursary awards are subject to repeat testing of parental means each year and may be varied upwards or downwards, depending on parental circumstances. Awards are made at the discretion of the Bursary Awards Committee, who will calculate award levels in relation to a family’s financial circumstances. Awards may be varied upwards or downwards depending on individual parents/guardians’ circumstances (e.g. their savings, investments and realisable assets, as well as their income, the size of their family, any other persons dependent upon them and like factors), compassionate or other pertinent considerations.
Requests for financial support usually fall into two categories:
1.New applicants to the school, where a place has been offered but parents/guardians are unable to fund the tuition fees and/or other costs in full or part.
2. Existing pupils where a change in parents/guardians’ circumstances has resulted in difficulty in meeting tuition fees and may result in the child being withdrawn part way through a stage of education.
To enquire about a place at Moulsford for your son, please contact our Registrar, Mrs Jill Morrin on 01491 651438 or firstname.lastname@example.org, or complete the online enquiry form (http://www.moulsford.com/enquiry-form) to receive a prospectus.
The next step is usually for parents to make an appointment for an individual visit to tour the school and meet the Headmaster, and this can be supplemented with a visit to our annual Open Day (http://www.moulsford.com/405/admissions/open-days) .
Please complete the registration form (link to page) at any stage of the process, and send to the Registrar together with a registration fee of £75. The Registrar will acknowledge receipt of all registration forms and fees. Please do keep us informed of any change of address since registration, or you may miss a deadline and forfeit your place.
There are two main points of entry to Moulsford:
Reception at age 4+: There is no selection process at this stage, and entry is on a first come, first served basis, with a waiting list based on date of registration. Early registration is therefore advisable, as the class can be full well in advance. There is one class in Reception (Bobcats), Year 1 (Panthers and Pumas) and Year 2 (Lions and Leopards). Class groups expand to three forms per year for Years 3 – 8.
Year 3 at 7+: For boys joining us in Year 3, there is a formal entrance assessment which takes place in the November prior to entry the following September, and we also request a comprehensive report from the boy’s current school. The assessment morning consists of fun and informal Maths and English exercises, as well as involvement in various extra-curricular and PE activities. The aim is to establish how boys respond to the set tasks and the environment within their peer group. Moulsford is not overtly academically selective, however we do want to be sure that boys will not only cope but thrive here on an academic level.
One further option, subject to available places, is for boys to join us in Year 7 at 11+, as either day boys or weekly boarders, for two years of senior school preparation.
Spaces are occasionally available in other year groups – please contact the Registrar with any enquiries. For boys joining year groups other than via the process listed above, we would invite them in for a normal school day for assessment, prior to offering a place formally.
Once the school has made a formal offer of a place, parents are required to sign and return a contract accepting the School’s Terms and Conditions. A deposit of £700, set against the final terms’ fees, is payable at this point in order to secure the place.
