Homefield Preparatory School

Day Surrey

For decades the school has been renowned for its family atmosphere, small class sizes, and fulfilment of individual potential and academic success. Homefield establishes a safe and happy environment, with a real depth of specialist teaching. Values drive our organisation and that shines through, whether it is the good manners of the boys or the decisions we make over what we teach and how we teach it.

Our well-rounded boys go on to some of the very best senior schools in the country. We cultivate their personal interests and passions; whether they are artistic, linguistic, sporting or social. Our academic success and scholarship rates are exceptional.

About Homefield Preparatory School

We are housed in an extensive purpose-built complex, with well-equipped science laboratories, large Art, DT and Music suites, complemented by a spacious Early Years Unit and a two-acre adjoining playing field.

Homefield prepares its boys for a very wide range of 46 senior schools in London and the South East, including Dulwich College, Epsom College, Eton, Hampton, Harrow, King’s College School, Wimbledon, Kingston Grammar, St Paul’s, St John’s, Trinity, Westminster and Whitgift.

At Homefield we aim to provide • High standards of learning for all • High standards of teaching for all • High expectations in a caring atmosphere • The fulfilment of each individual’s potential • A thorough preparation for each boy’s next school • A secure foundation for each boy’s future life. Above all, we try to achieve them in a climate of expectation but not pressure! The ISI inspection of the school in March 2013 endorsed these aims, noting that “Pupils make a strong contribution to their learning through their highly motivated and enthusiastic attitudes... The quality of pupils’ achievements and learning is excellent.” (ISI Inspection, March 2013) Homefield’s strong pastoral care is delivered by form teachers in the Early Years Unit and Junior Departments, and by form tutors in the Senior Department. Last year the boys in the Upper 6th form safely qualified via Common Entrance and Scholarship for 10 different senior schools, successfully maintaining Homefield’s 100% pass rate at Common Entrance over the last ten years. 83 scholarships have been won to senior independent schools for academic, musical, sporting, artistic and all round accomplishment in the last three years.

The formal curriculum is complemented by a very rich variety of lunch-time and after-school clubs including numerous academic, sporting, artistic and musical groups and orchestras. The boys’ learning is also complemented by the enrichment and benefit of frequent regional, national and overseas visits and trips.

The school runs breakfast, after school and holiday clubs as well as a minibus service to and from the Wimbledon area.

The Music and Drama Departments also regularly perform in the local community and invite local schools and neighbours to their events. Parent links are also very important at Homefield. The Homefield Association is very active and organizes many charitable functions throughout the year, additionally raising funds for the school. Homefield School offers academic, art, music and sports scholarships. Contact us to book a tour of the school; we are looking forward to welcoming you.

Scholarships & Bursaries

Scholarships

Homefield Preparatory School offers a range of scholarships for boys who demonstrate outstanding academic, musical, sporting, artistic or all-round potential. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of examination and internal assessment.

Boys of merit who are identified can become potential beneficiaries of the following awards:

  • Rae:               Academic
  • Sutherland:    Arts and Music
  • Cowdrey:       Sport/All rounder

Bursaries

Our governors are committed to supporting eligible parents/guardians by means-tested financial support with the payment of school fees. Such support is known as a bursary and these may be awarded in the form of an agreed percentage discount on tuition fees payable, depending on the financial, compassionate or other pertinent circumstances of applicants.

Bursary awards are subject to repeat testing of parental means each year and may be varied upwards or downwards, depending on parental circumstances.

Awards are made on the basis of the parents’ ability to pay using the letter of application, application form and financial declaration to assess the need and the consequent level of financial support required. Any award will take into account several factors including their income, savings, investments and other assets, any other persons dependent upon them and compassionate or other pertinent considerations.

Admissions Process

We appreciate that choosing the right school for your son is one of the most important decisions you will make as a parent. We want to make the process as simple as possible and our Registrar will support you every step of the way.

First, we encourage all prospective parents to come and visit us to experience what a normal school day is like for the boys. You can do this either by booking a place on one of our Open Mornings held regularly throughout the year or by arranging an individual tour of the school with our Registrar. You will be made to feel very welcome.

The next step is to register your son with us by completing and returning the Registration Form which you can click to download. There is a registration fee of £75, payable by cheque to ‘Homefield Preparatory School’. Alternatively you can pay by bank transfer and our Registrar will provide you with our bank details.

Once we have your registration form we will then arrange for your son to be assessed. We hold an assessment day each October but it may be possible to arrange an assessment at an alternative time once this date has passed.

For your reassurance, we do not seek to make the assessments competitive and they do not require any advance preparation. The primary purpose of the assessment is to ensure that boys will be comfortable once they have started at Homefield.

Your son can be assessed with us from his 2nd birthday. For Nursery and Reception entry, the assessment takes the form of a play session and will last up to half an hour. For entry into the Junior Department (Years 1-3), the assessment will last about an hour, and for the Senior Department (Years 4-8), assessment lasts an hour and a half.

Providing your son meets our entrance criteria, an offer of a place for him will then be made. On acceptance of this offer, we ask for a deposit of £500. This acceptance fee is non-refundable if your son subsequently does not join Homefield Preparatory School. However, if he does join us then this sum will be returned to you at the end of your son's last term at the school after outstanding expenses have been cleared.
