Eastbourne College
Headmaster Tom Lawson says: 'Whether in house, on the games field or in the classroom, everything we do at Eastbourne College is informed by our key values: participation, the pursuit of excellence, integrity, courtesy and kindness.'
'We are fortunate to have an historic and inspiring school site and state-of-the art facilities. Even more importantly, we have a talented and committed body of staff who are expert in nurturing children so they develop the best of themselves.'
Attain asked the school, what makes Eastbourne College different – and why should parents consider it?
There are not many top senior independent schools in Britain where a six-minute stroll will take you to the doorstep of a national park, an international tennis venue, a county cricket ground, two challenging golf courses, award-winning beaches, theatres, an award-winning art gallery, a brand new shopping centre with state-of-the-art cinema and a mainline station to London and Ashford International (direct trains to Paris).
The College continues to make waves with its location-inspired 'blue health' philosophy to promote a healthy balance inside and outside of the classroom which teenagers need to navigate adolescence and the school's gold-standard pastoral care is supported by the school's new 'mindgym' initiative which links physical and mental wellbeing. The College is reaching out like never before, connecting its boarding and day pupils with the raft of opportunities that abound within a few hundred metres of the school.
The College's learning environment is second to none thanks to its £33 million Project 150 redevelopment including classrooms, technology suites, cricket pavilion with live stream video analysis, dance studio, Sport England compliant sports hall, fitness suite for elite and inclusive participation, glass backed squash courts and an alfresco-feel dining room!
The creative and performing arts offering and facilities are outstanding too with light and spacious creative art and design spaces alongside a 284-seater auditorium, three theatres, a dance studio, recording studio, vocal booths, technology suites. The list goes on. And on.
In 2021, sixth form pupils achieved excellent A-level results with almost 82% of the grades awarded being A* - B. At GCSE pupils achieved 65% A*-A. Quite simply, an exceptional school!
